Sicily Concert Tours

Perform music concerts in the towns and villages of Sicily

“To have seen Italy without having seen Sicily is not to have seen Italy at all, for Sicily is the clue to everything.”-- Goethe.

Sicily is a place where time and tradition have been forged by peoples and faiths from north and south, east and west.  It is Europe, Africa and Asia in one magical moment.  Sicily is more than just the largest island in the Mediterranean!  It is the world’s first multicultural society and Italy’s most historically cosmopolitan region.

Carthaginian traders, Greek tyrants, Roman Governors, Byzantine bishops, Arab emirs, Norman knights, Holy Roman Emperors all left their cultural mark on Sicily’s history, art, architecture, music, and cuisine making Sicily a unique place.

Sicilian love of music is evident in the majestic opera houses and theatres that dot the island.  Catania was the birthplace of Vincenzo Bellini  whose most famous opera, Norma, has even given its name to a regional pasta sauce!

Celebrated musicians from all corners of the globe have performed in the island’s ancient Greek theatres, historic cathedrals and lively  piazzas.

In addition to man-made wonders, the power and beauty of mother nature is magnificently evident on visits to places such as Mount Etna and the Alcantara Gorge.

Concert performance venues in Sicily

Groups stay by the beach near the ancient town of Taormina which is dramatically placed on the side of a mountain, overlooking the sea and facing Mount Etna. With the ancient Greco-Roman theatre to visit and a Cathedral for concerts this is a perfect base for concert tours in Sicily. There are plenty of stunning churches and squares to play in along this East coast of Sicily as well as the chance to hike to the summit of Mount Etna, visit the famous fish market in Catania, swim  in the sea or travel a bit further to beautiful Siracusa and its fascinating ancient Roman ruins.

Taormina is a perfectly sized town to explore for all ages. The main street takes you straight past the 15th century cathedral with its battlements and pretty fountain square. Choirs and Orchestras can perform inside the cathedral whilst other types of groups would be better suited to perform outside in the square.

Taormina Cathedral / Square

Striking Cathedral built in the style of a fortress

Siracusa was once one of ancient Greece's most important cities. Now it is one of Sicily’s most picturesque and interesting coastal town which overflows with examples of Greek, Roman and Baroque architecture. The Cathedral is in Old town Siracusa, Ortygia, which is actually an island that was first colonised in 734 BC by Corinthians. The columns of the old Greek temple were incorporated into the 7th century building and the baroque facade was built in the 1700s. Choirs and orchestras can perform inside and other music groups can perform outside. Both the Cathedral and the square are breathtakingly beautiful.

Siracusa Cathedral / Piazza del Duomo

Sicilian Baroque Cathedral  and UNESCO World Heritage Site

The cathedral itself is an interesting blend of neo-gothic and baroque but the magnificent square it sits next to is dominated by a perfect example of Sicilian Baroque, the church of San Pietro e Paolo. Choirs can perform inside the cathedral and other groups can perform in front of the beautiful church.

Sicily is simply glorious! There are so many places to visit that you will want to go back again and again. Roman theatres, greek temples, crystal clear sea, baroque churches, volcanic islands, sicilian markets and the finest Roman mosaics in the world! The list goes on...

This can be a full day excursion to include the stunning Gorge created by the river cutting a canyon into the lava stone, or a half day to the top of Etna. An alpine guide or volcanologist can take you on a guided walk around the crater on the summit. On a clear day a view of the whole island is possible!
The iconic photograph of Sicily showing the ancient Greek theatre with the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna as a backdrop, is the must-see venue of Taormina. Besides orchestras and choirs, it has hosted celebrities such as Paul Simon,Tony Bennett, Elton John and Duran Duran. In 2018 Sting and Noel Gallagher will perform.
Two of the most significant ancient archaeological sites from both Greek and Roman history are situated adjacent to one another in the northwest corner of Siracusa. Visit the Greek theater, the latomie stone quarries, the ear of Dionysius, the altar of Hieron II the Roman amphitheater and more.
Raucous market open every weekday morning. Apart from the spectacular display of fish of all shapes and sizes, there is breathtakingly loud and fast paced activity to wonder at. Pure street theatre.
Discover Lipari and Vulcano, two must-visit islands in the stunning UN protected Aeolian Island archipelago off Sicily’s north coast.. Spend time at leisure on each island, perhaps exploring Lipari Old Town and relaxing in Vulcano’s legendary mud baths. High speed hydrofoils will whisk us from island to island.
The Unesco-listed Villa Romana del Casale is central Sicily's biggest attraction for good reason: the site is home to the finest Roman floor mosaics in existence. Only rediscovered in the 1950’s and almost perfectly preserved, they cover 3500 sq. meters of a former hunting lodge. Your guided tour takes you on an elevated walkway overlooking the mosaics. Unforgettable.
